Thorold, ON (April 26, 2017) – With just six days to go in CAA Niagara’s Worst Roads Campaign, Queenston Street is in the top spot once again.
This year, more than 200 different roads in Niagara have been nominated by drivers, cyclists and pedestrians, with most voters reporting “potholes and crumbling pavement” as the reason for selecting a road.
The current top five worst roads in Niagara are:
Reports from Niagara Region and area municipalities confirm improvements are planned for the top five 2016 worst roads:
Queenston Street, St. Catharines: construction is under way and should be completed by the end of 2017.
Dominion Road, Fort Erie: Helena Street to Lakeshore Road is in the design stage with construction scheduled for 2018/19. Burleigh Road to Buffalo Road design stage completed and construction is scheduled for 2017/18.
Drummond Road, Niagara Falls: is scheduled for major capital expenditures in the next 10 years. Road resurfacing between Thorold Stone Road and Morrison Street could begin in 2020, if not sooner.
Lakeshore Road, Niagara-on-the-Lake: construction between Read Road and Townline Road is complete. Townline Road to Four Mile Creek Road is scheduled for 2018/19.
Grantham Avenue, St. Catharines: repaving and curb replacement, between Facer Street and Carlton Street, was completed last year.
It’s not too late to vote. CAA Niagara’s Worst Roads campaign runs until midnight, Monday, May 1 and votes can be cast at www.CAAWorstRoads.ca. Voters will be entered in a weekly draw for a $100 Kelsey’s gift card and one voter will win $2,500 worth of gasoline.
CAA Niagara will release its top 10 Worst Roads the beginning of June.
